No, actually I have quite a lot of songs that make me bang my head like Dana Carvey in the opening credits of Wayne’s World.
Forthwith:
- Bottle of Smoke – The Pogues. The most upbeat song about getting drunk at a racetrack and winning a bunch of money used to get even more inebriated ever created.
- I Fought the Law – Clash cover. I have nearly broken my steering wheel during the part where Mick Jones was robbin’ people with a SIX GUN, he fought the LAW and the LAW WON. And I’m not ashamed.
- Rehab – Amy Winehouse. I enjoy this for unintentional reasons. Because I am a bad person.
- Houses of the Holy – Led Zeppelin. Quick, everybody rock out! I’ll wait!
- When I Come Around – Green Day. I like Green Day, and I like self-deprecating Green Day most of all. I’ve had some version of this song on a playlist somewhere since I was about fourteen years old. That’s ten years worth of rocking out. That’s longer than most marriages.
- Blister in the Sun – Violent Femmes. If you say you don’t clap along every time this song comes on, you’re a goddamn liar. YES I SAID YOU’RE A LIAR. Clap, dammit!
- What a Wonderful World – Joey Ramone cover. I remember hearing this at the end of Goodfellas and laughing my ass off. Then my mom gave me “Don’t Worry About Me” a few weeks later and I wore a groove in that thing listening to this song. My mom gives me things like Joey Ramone CDs because she’s cooler than your mom.
- Photograph – Def Leppard. Yes, I love the 80s too much. Shut up.
- Suffragette City – David Bowie. It’s a happy song about male hustlers. Also: WHAM BAM THANK YOU MA’AM!
- Siobhan – The Tossers. A cheerful and up-tempo song about your faithless drunken girlfriend. This is what passes for happiness in Irish folk-punk. Just be glad nobody died.
- Ice Cream – New Young Pony Crew. My god, it’s an awful song. I dance every time.
- Re: Your Brains – Jonathan Coulton. I’m not going to pretend to be all cool and hip here. I included the song about the zombies. Yes I did.
