I’ve been sitting on this for a week or so while everything was finalized, but the PM listing went up today so I can finally announce the great news regarding my YA fantasy, The Witch’s Alphabet.
Caitlin Kittredge’s YA fantasy trilogy THE IRON CODEX, beginning with THE WITCH’S ALPHABET, a series set in a Lovecraftian industrial city in an alternate 1950s that centers on a mechanically gifted young girl approaching her 16th birthday, the age at which everyone in her family goes insane, leaving it up to her to unravel the mystery of their madness — and save the world, to Kristin Marino at Delacorte, in a major deal, in a pre-empt, by Rachel Vater at Folio Literary Management (NA).
German rights to Bertelsmann Jugendbuch Verlag, in a good deal, in a pre-empt, by Celeste Fine at Folio Literary Management in association with Peter and Paul Fritz.
I owe huge, mega, impossible thanks to Rachel for pulling this deal together, Krista for loving the book and Celeste for doing a fantastic (and fast!) German sale. This is my first foray into YA fantasy and to say I’m excited, overjoyed, or even squeeful would be an enormous understatement.
But I am doing a little dance.
/dance
I write speculative fiction, including but not limited to books about mages, werewolves, superheroes, steampunk monsters, fairies and demons. I have partially purple hair, collect comic books, do pinup modeling and photography in my copious spare time, and keep the music up way too loud.
Many congrats, Caitlin!
Holy crap, Caitlin!!!! I just read this on Publisher’s Marketplace. You should be doing more than a little dance, girl. This is huge!! Congrats!!!
So…can I borrow some money, rich author chick?
Congratulations! Much luck. Rachel is my agent too, and I hope someday she’ll sell one of mine.
[...] Congrats to Caitlin Kittredge on selling YA fantasy trilogy THE IRON CODEX to Delacorte. Listen to this, and tell me that you don’t want kids reading [...]
Sorry for the newb question, but do you have a link to a place where Witch’s Alphabet can be purchased? I’m a-googlin’ but coming up with nothing.
Hi Ed, the book won’t be released for about 18 months, since it just sold. I’ll be sure to post a link as soon as amazon.com and others have it listed!
Cheers,
Caitlin
Warren Ellis gave a heads up about this on his blog, and I now cannot wait. I’ll be keeping an eye out!
Arg, 18 months! A long time to wait for something that sounds so compelling.
I’ll set a calendar reminder right now
Another person who saw this on Warren Ellis’ blog. Totally cool sounding, I’ll be sure to buy a copy when it pops up. :>
Congrats, Caitlin! This is fabulous news! I can’t wait to read it.
Thanks, Stacie!
